Beautiful Blended Family

When I first read Kati's questionnaire I got super anxious... an 11 year old and a 7 year old..I often get in my head about how to guide older kids without them completely checking out or ignoring me?! But what I've found is honestly they just want to chat...they want you to treat them like a grown up and ask them questions but even more important than asking is listening. Engaging them and listening...giving them space and understanding and really just being there. I get on their level early, literally setting up my camera while on the floor and just chatting at that level for awhile before even lifting the camera. I talk through my process, show them some test images on the back screen and towards the end of the session I'll whip out my Instax and take a few pics they can keep or let them take some pics if they're into it! What I'm trying to say is...don't be scared of a family with older kids!
