Lindsay Healey Photography School Portraits are a modern, simple approach to school photos that are perfect for your smaller, specialty schools. Think, outdoor preschool or montessori daycare. They're different from most school portraits in two big ways: First, they are as simple as can be. Contextual background. Natural light. One lens, real, genuine smiles. No backgrounds that look like a neon forest, or fake fences. No fake flowers or weird lovey that's not theirs.

And second, I do not ask your child to smile. I talk to them, I take longer than 2 minutes and I chat, I crack a few jokes, I ask them their favorite color and we get to know each other and that results in genuine connection which in turn, lends itself to beautifully raw and true photos.

Why I love these?

As a mom of two myself, I've had my fair share less than exciting school photos where their outfits accidentally clash with the background de jour or very clearly my kid wasn't even looking at the camera because there wasn't enough time to get the right shot. I don't play like that, my focus is to get the shot, and even though my goal is 5-7 min per kid, I'll work as long as I need to make sure I capture your kiddo and honor their aura!

What does a school photography session look like?

I bring a chair or stool and arrive early to look at the property. I pick a location that has beautiful natural light and where the background isn't terribly distracting. I set up there but I shoot normally and not on a tripod so I can get on the kid's level. I'll snap a few pics of each kid and then we'll do a group portrait. I'll take a few images of the kiddos playing, candids in their element. I'll send a digital link for each child that will go directly to the parents. Parents / guardians will have the option to purchase individual images or the entire gallery, no more paying before you even see the proof. All my profit is made through these sales - no fee is due upfront from either the parents or the school director.
